Mel,
It was created and sold by Tufts House in Pierce--my old stomping grounds. It had been around for several years before I got there in '97.

I thought we did it for the first time in '98. The original shirts were long-sleeved, maroon color.
Wow, this is a really great site, I've always been interested in the history of the slogans here and actually have my own running list of slogans, past and present. Kudos on the effort!
I also wanted to add that I'm currently in charge of the "Where Fun Comes to Die" shirt sales for Tufts House. The slogan definitely continues to be one of the favorite on campus, though I've had more than a few administrative types give me some sideways looks during our sales in the Reynolds Club!
We've been able to expand our prints to shirts, long sleeve shirts, and hoodies and we usually sell twice a quarter. Also, we've recently started mailing shirts out, so if you're interested you can send an e-mail my way at wherefuncomestodie@gmail.com
Thanks!
I don't know if you are still interested in the origins of "Where Fun Comes to Die," but I personally know the guy who came up with the slogan. Let me know if you are interested in contacting him. It has been around since '93 or '94 I believe.
tufts house in pierce sold it my first year in 1995. we swiped it from a house in shoreland if i remember right. it was the best fundraiser.
tufts house in pierce started selling it in 1995. i think we might have swiped it from a house in shoreland. it was the perfect fundraiser.
University of Chicago-When you sleep, we study.
You already have it verified, but I was in Tufts 95-99 and we came up with it in 95 for raising some cash. As you can guess, we sold out damn fast.
The originals were grey with maroon writing, long-sleeved ts.
You forgot the extended version:
Where fun comes to die, and ugly goes to kick it

Check out this article in the New Yorker with mention of UofC slogans!
I am from Broadview (Palmer) and my wife was from Tufts House. We both graduated in '90. This slogan was on T-Shirts when we got here in '86. Tufts was also famous for having a shirt that said "We are Tufts and you suck".....
